(TheIndependentStar.com) – The Alabama vs. Georgia face-off is bound to generate tons of hype as Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump confirmed that he will attend one of college football’s biggest rivalry games later this month.
“Current Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump will be inside Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, on Sept. 28 to watch the Crimson Tide take on the Bulldogs,” a source reported, and another source from Trump’s campaign confirmed he will be at the game.
Throughout his time in office and after, Trump has made a habit of attending major U.S. sporting events.
He has attended the annual Army-Navy game, the College Football Playoff national championship, the World Series, and NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600. He is also a regular at UFC events, often getting nods or shout-outs from athletes in the ring.
“In addition to the 2018 national championship game, Trump has seen the Crimson Tide at home before,” the source noted.
“He was at the star-studded matchup in 2019 between Alabama and LSU in Tuscaloosa. There, he was cheered when he was shown inside the stadium jumbotron,” it added.
The sourced continued, “It was the first time a sitting president attended an Alabama football home game.”
With two assassination attempts against him this year—one of which led to the death of former Pennsylvania fire chief Corey Comperatore—questions remain about how his presence at such a public event will affect security.
Moreover, the Chairman of the Alabama Republican Party, John Wahl, told Tuscaloosa News that Alabama will welcome Trump warmly.
“The people of Alabama have a special relationship with Donald Trump, and the Republican Party is always excited to welcome him to our state,” Wahl stated.
Since Georgia is a key swing state in the upcoming election, Trump’s attendance at the game seems like a strategic move.
