This was such a dumb idea.
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki is adamant about defending the Biden administration’s efforts to track illegal immigrants ahead of their court proceedings by giving them cell phones.
During a press briefing on Friday, Psaki was asked by a Fox News reporter whether the administration had plans to “give free smartphones to U.S. citizens” who would like to get one, Psaki responded, “Should we not be tracking migrants who irregularly cross the border?”
The Fox News correspondent retorted, “Well, it’d be great if anybody that wanted a free phone and a free monthly plan could get one,” before querying if the offer would be “for everybody or just people that walk into the country illegally?”
A visibly irritated Pelosi replied, mentioning that she would be reiterating previous statements about ” tracking individuals who irregularly migrate to the country in order to ensure that they are meeting their notice to appear obligations and that they are appearing in court when they should appear in court.”
When Psaki was asked about the initiative earlier in the week, with the primary concern being participants would throw them away, she dismissed them, saying, that the phones are “all part of our effort as individuals come into the United States and individuals who are entering who will proceed to immigration proceedings to monitor and track where they are.”
