This week President Biden is set to talk with congressional Democrats at the House Democratic Caucus Issues Conference in Baltimore on Wednesday. He will also attend the Senate Democratic Caucus lunch in Washington, D.C., a day later.

A White House official has noted that the President’s speech is going to focus on how the Democrats can progress and how they can combat the Republican’s economic policies which can hurt working Americans. They added that the President will discuss building up the economy from the “bottom up and the middle out.”

They continued by noting that Biden will also discuss the Republican’s threats “to trigger a catastrophic default” which could potentially take away health coverage from millions of Americans.

Biden and his administration have maintained that Congress should agree to increase the debt limit without any conditions, however, the Republicans have maintained that government spending cuts need to accompany the debt ceiling increase.

In the past, Biden has also frequently attacked the GOP for their attacks on Social Security and Medicare. This was also brought up during his state of the Union address in which Biden said that spending cuts would affect entitlement programs. Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) however has maintained that both Social Security and Medicare are “off the table.”

Biden’s speech will also focus on praising the Democrats for remaining unified and focusing on core priorities. The priorities that he will discuss include cutting the deficit and increasing taxation for large corporations.
