Here’s what happened.
President Joe Biden shocked the American public by enforcing new travel restrictions among 8 different countries. He stated that the reason for these travel bans is so that the new coronavirus variants do not cause an outbreak in the future. These bans have caused concerns among many Americans in fear of another surge in pandemic cases.
The travel restrictions are to be effective starting on Monday and does not apply to any U.S. citizens or lawful residents. The 8 countries that will be banned from travel are South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Mozambique, and Malawi. The new variant of the coronavirus was spotted in South Africa and has spread throughout these nations. Biden claimed that he enforced these travel bans after Dr. Anthony Fauci briefed him on the developing situations within these countries.
Biden stated that public health is very important and that enforcing these travel restrictions will help the country with preventing any coronavirus cases. He also pushed the American public to become fully vaccinated to help reduce concerns for another surge in coronavirus cases.
The research from the banned countries show that the cases for the new variant are largely located in South Africa but can easily spread throughout these countries.
