President Joe Biden received backlash following remarks he made about reporters shouting questions at him as they were escorted from the White House abortion task force meeting. Many perceived his comments as an attack on the free press.
When reporters attempted to question the President at the White House task force meeting, rather than respond to the questions as the press was being escorted out of the meeting, Biden smiled and said, “You’re among the only press in the world that does this. Seriously, seriously.”
The President’s retort quickly drew criticism from all corners of the internet, with many pointing out that Biden failed to engage with the press, most evident by the infrequency of his press conferences.
Republican operative, Matt Whitlock, mocked Biden’s perspective of the press, tweeting, “That pesky ‘Freedom of the Press,’ right?”
Communications official for the Heritage Foundation, a conservative organization, John Cooper, tweeted, “This guy routinely hides from the press, rarely takes questions, almost never does pressers, and has the gall to criticize them for trying to ask questions on one of the few opportunities they get.”
Pointing out the irony of Biden’s remarks, Ian Haworth, a speaker for Young America’s Foundation and Turning Point USA, tweeted, “In the United Kingdom, the Prime Minister has to publicly defend their own policies during televised debates every week. In the United States, Joe Biden complains that he has to answer questions every few months.”
Fox News contributor Guy Benson also questioned whether “other world leaders hold press conferences & sit down for interviews more frequently than, like, every six months, or whatever?”
Biden last held a press conference on June 30.
