Biden implemented pivotal executive actions on Tuesday aimed at controlling the flow of migrants seeking asylum, effectively setting the stage for a potential shutdown of the U.S.-Mexico border at non-port entry points starting at midnight, leftist news outlet Politico notes in a report.
These measures allow the President to halt asylum claims between official entry ports when migrant crossings average 2,500 per day over a week—a threshold that, according to administration officials, has already been met.
The report notes that, in a decisive move to strengthen his border policy stance ahead of the November elections, Biden used a Tuesday speech to emphasize his independent efforts to address the border crisis.
“Today I’m moving past Republican obstruction and using the executive authorities available to me as president to do what I can on my own to address the border,” President Biden stated, standing before two screens emblazoned with “SECURING OUR BORDER” in the White House East Room.
He expressed a preference for legislative solutions but lamented that Republican opposition left him no alternative.
According to the pro-left report, the President’s announcement was bolstered by the presence of Congressional members and leaders from border states and cities, showcasing a unified front and political resolve on an issue that has persistently challenged him.
The policy is anticipated to provoke criticism from progressive factions and immigration advocates, who are expected to voice their opposition later in the day, Politico observes further.
In his address, Biden openly criticized Trump for encouraging Republicans to oppose the bipartisan border bill and contrasted his policies with those of his predecessor.
“I will never demonize immigrants. I will never refer to immigrants as poisoning the blood of a country. And further, I will never separate children from their families at the border,” he declared.
According to a report by Breitbart News, however, Biden’s border “shutdown” maintains numerous exceptions that facilitate significant ongoing economic migration, impacting American job markets and residential spaces.
It points out that the president’s strategy excludes a vast number of additional migrants who exploit the existing loopholes at the border.
These exceptions are currently facilitating the entrance of approximately 85,000 migrants each month—totaling one million per year—without congressional consent.
The cumulative effect of Biden’s policy could result in an annual admission of approximately 3.5 million individuals, comprising legal, illegal, temporary, and quasi-legal migrants.
This scale of migration correlates to roughly one new migrant worker, renter, and consumer per every American birth.
