(TheIndependentStar.com) – In a major flipflop just days before he is set to leave office, Joe Biden is trying to paint himself as Israel’s champion by proposing an $8 billion arms sale for war efforts.
By doing so, Biden is also turning his back on his party’s most radical members, who say the U.S. is fueling a conflict that has already cost thousands of terrorist lives in Palestine.
The State Department has informed Congress of the planned sale, which includes a lethal arsenal of medium-range air-to-air missiles, 155 mm artillery shells, Hellfire missiles, and 500-pound bombs.
This is in addition to the at least $17.9 billion in military aid Israel has received since October 2023.
Although some of these weapons may be sent from current U.S. stocks, the majority will actually take years to deliver.
This long-term commitment to arming Israel confirms America’s policy of defending its closest ally in the Middle East.
Still, critics of the sale argue that the Biden administration is more interested in maintaining a military-industrial complex than in fostering peace and stability in the Middle East.
The timing of this arms sale is particularly notable as it comes amid ongoing ceasefire talks in Qatar and increasing calls for peace.
One of the left’s talking points is that the conflict has caused widespread destruction in Gaza, displacing about 90% of its 2.3 million population.
The health ministry run by the terrorist group Hamas claims over 45,500 Palestinian deaths, a number that raises suspicions as it comes from a highly unreliable source.
While the sale is not yet final and requires review by the House Foreign Affairs Committee or the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the Biden administration seems to be pushing hard for this deal.
Biden is even facing criticism from within their own party, with some Democrats calling for arms sales to be conditioned on Israel changing how it handles the Gaza situation.
