This is absolutely disgusting.
A conservative advocacy group said the Biden administration was leveraging lunch money to hold “school districts hostage.”
The Fight for Schools made these statements in response to the Department of Agriculture’s announcement that certain schools would be required to allow trans students to use the bathroom of their preferred gender.
The Department of Agriculture made these statements in May, announcing schools that receive money from the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), an agency within USDA, must make provisions within their policies that prohibit discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation.
The Department also stated that allegations of such discrimination would have to be investigated.
According to a report by Fox News, Ian Prior, Executive Director of Fight for Schools, “What you’re seeing here is really the Biden administration saying ‘you’re going to do what I want or I’m going to take your lunch money.'”
Prior added, “For the federal government to come in and really tie school nutrition and school lunch programs to this radical ideology is terrifying, and it’s appalling.”
The FNS oversees several nutrition-related programs, including one for Women, Infant, and Children (WIC) in addition to Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). The FNS also administers National School Lunch Program, which provides free or low-cost lunches for children feeding on average 30 million kids before the pandemic.
Prior went on to question the link between gender discrimination policies and basic needs, stating, “I honestly have no idea how providing food to children in schools is somehow connected to transgender policies. What we see here is the Biden administration using children as pawns in this social justice, gender ideology game that they are playing.”
