This is despicable.

Users on social media have begun an intense criticism of Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm after clips of her laughing at rising gas prices appeared online.

After gas prices exceeded $4 per gallon on Sunday, a figure they last reached 14 years ago, clips started gaining traction of Granholm on Thursday.

In the clip, which was filmed last May, but only started surfacing earlier this week, Granholm said, “If you drive an electric car, this would not be affecting you,” while laughing and smiling.

At the time when Grahnholm made those remarks, she also had $5 million in stock options from Proterra, a company responsible for making electric buses, charging stations, and batteries for electric vehicles.

On Thursday, when the video, which now has 1.2 million views, was posted, Grahholm was also filmed dodging questions from reporters about rising gas prices.

Granholm’s press secretary then assured reporters that the answer to those questions would follow shortly, many publications are still waiting for those answers/

Last May’s laughter when discussing surging gas prices doesn’t seem to be an isolated incident with Granholm. Instead, in another clip doing the rounds on social media, Granholm laughs during a television interview when she’s asked what her plan is to increase oil production in the U.S.

In this clip, Granholm responds by laughing, then saying, “That is hilarious,” while continuing her laughter.

But Granholm has made her position on energy known: she isn’t a fan, as a final clip emerged on Wednesday of her appearing in a music video calling for gasoline to be banned.

Granholm’s clips entering the spotlight come as Americans now pay an average of $4.38 per gallon of gas, a 55% increase from where it stood a year ago.

Gas prices are only expected to increase following Biden’s Tuesday ban on Russian oil.
