(TheIndependentStar.com) – Adding to the left’s current troubles, the Democrat Party now has to deal with the fact that it helped elect a mayor who has been arrested in connection with a major drug trafficking investigation.
Democrat Bogalusa Mayor Tyrin Truong faces charges including transactions involving drug proceeds and solicitation of prostitutes.
The 25-year-old mayor, who promised to clean up the city, has exposed the hypocrisy of leftist politicians who claim to fight for their communities.
The Louisiana State Police Narcotics/Violent Crime Task Force launched the investigation in April 2024.
It uncovered a drug distribution network that used social media platforms to distribute opioids, high-grade marijuana, THC products and MDMA.
The operation’s tentacles reached the highest levels of local government, ending in Mayor Truong’s arrest along with six other members of the drug-trafficking organization.
Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill emphasized the state’s commitment to rooting out corruption.
She stated, “We have zero tolerance for wrongdoing, especially from public officials.”
The investigation revealed that profits from drug sales were used to buy guns, some of which were linked to violent crimes.
This connection between drug trafficking and violent crime underscores the importance of tough-on-crime policies and strong support for law enforcement.
Interestingly, these are the very same policies that many leftist politicians, including Truong, often criticize or undermine.
“We are going to continue to invest time and resources into helping the citizens of Bogalusa. We are not finished,” said District Attorney Collin Sims.
Truong’s arrest also sheds light on his personal misconduct. He organized entertainment with a sex worker using public funds during a mayor’s conference in Atlanta.
By doing so, Truong showcased a blatant misuse of taxpayer money and a complete disregard for the trust Bogalusa citizens placed in him.
The young mayor’s fall from grace is particularly striking, given his quick rise to power.
Elected at just 23 years old in 2022, Truong became one of the youngest mayors in Louisiana history.
He campaigned on promises to decrease crime and corruption in Bogalusa, even revealing ambitions for higher office.
