(TheIndependentStar.com) – Criminal justice reform is a hot-button topic. Most agree the system could use some changes to make it fairer and address issues. However, Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has decided to take a more radical approach in pursuit of what she wants to happen.
AOC recently spoke at a campaign event for Nina Turner, the former co-chair for the Bernie Sanders 2020 presidential campaign and a former state senator. Turner is currently running for a seat in the US House of Representatives in her very left-leaning Ohio district.
At the July 24, 2021, event in Cleveland, Ohio, Ocasio-Cortez spoke about the need to fix the criminal justice system. Her solution? To simply get rid of it. She says it is an unfair system that is designed to “trap black and brown men.”

On her official government website, her platform states she wants to focus on “dismantling our system of mass incarceration.” Among her goals are ending cash bail, investigating all deaths at the hands of law enforcement, ending for-profit prisons, and releasing nonviolent drug offenders.
In the same speech, she said all she really wants is peace, justice, and prosperity. Those may be difficult goals to reach if she gets her wish of dismantling the criminal justice system.
