New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D) lambasted Texas Governor Greg Abbott and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for relocating migrants from their states to liberal states.

The two governors have been transporting illegal immigrants from their states to “sanctuary” states or cities in an apparent protest against the Biden administration’s border policies.

On Wednesday (September 14), a group of 50 migrants arrived at Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts after being flown to the island from Texas at DeSantis’ behest.

Reports surfaced that the migrants relocated to Martha’s Vineyard had been lured to board the plane to the island under false pretenses and were in the country legally under an asylum program.

A few hours after news broke of the Martha’s Vineyard relocation, Abbott announced two buses from Texas arrived in Washington, D.C., carrying about 100 migrants.

Ocasio-Cortez related her disgust toward both men, echoing remarks that the Republican governors were human trafficking migrants by relocating them.

Taking to Twitter on Friday (September 16) evening, the New York Democrat tweeted, “It’s appalling that far-right politicians seem to have decided that fall before an election is their regularly scheduled time to commit crimes against humanity on refugees.”

She continued her criticism, writing, “Don’t normalize this. Lying to & trafficking people for TV and clicks isn’t politics as usual. It’s abuse.”

She then contrasted the views modern conservatives have about immigration and the pride many take in their immigrant ancestors.

In a separate tweet, she said, “Not people calling others ‘illegal’ as they fondly recall their last name is spelled the way it is because their great-grandpa came to the US with the equivalent of a misspelled post-it note.”

She highlighted in the thread that “By today’s standards, most US families would have [been] deemed undocumented or trafficked at some point in their family history.”
