(TheIndependentStar.com) – In a bold move, lame-duck Joe Biden has launched a massive air campaign against ISIS in Syria, striking over 75 locations with precision airstrikes.
This aggressive action comes after Bashar al-Assad was removed from power as the U.S. seeks to prevent ISIS from exploiting the resulting power vacuum.
In his final days in office, Biden labeled the collapse of Assad’s government as a “fundamental act of justice.”
He stated that the regime’s downfall was due to the weakening support from its traditional allies: Iran, Hezbollah and Russia.
The Biden administration emphasized that U.S. anti-ISIS operations will continue, highlighting the ongoing threat posed by the terrorist organization.
The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) announced the extensive military operation.
It involved deploying some of America’s most powerful aircraft, including B-52 Stratofortresses, F-15 Eagles and A-10 Thunderbolt IIs.
These outstanding warplanes launched approximately 140 bombs on ISIS targets across central Syria, showcasing the full might of American air power.
CENTCOM commander Gen. Michael Erik Kurilla issued a stern warning to potential ISIS sympathizers.
He declared, “All organizations in Syria should know that we will hold them accountable if they partner with or support ISIS in any way.”
The fall of Assad’s regime marks a significant turning point in Syria’s bloody civil war.
After half a century of oppressive rule, the Assad family has finally been ousted, with Bashar al-Assad and his inner circle fleeing to Russia for asylum.
This development has been met with glee by many Syrian citizens who have long suffered under the dictator’s iron fist.
President-elect Donald Trump’s incoming administration has signaled a potential shift in U.S. foreign policy regarding Syria.
Trump has expressed reluctance to involve America in a regional conflict, stating, “Syria is a mess, but is not our friend.”
The power vacuum left by Assad’s departure has created uncertainty in the region, with various factions fighting for control.
Of particular concern is the potential resurgence of ISIS, which the U.S. airstrikes aim to prevent.
CENTCOM has made it clear that it will not allow ISIS to regroup and take advantage of the current situation in Syria.
